Niños Children's Hospital Boston's Center for Bladder Exstrophy Care & Support Group is known internationally for it's preeminent care and support of children with bladder exstrophy and their families.

Bladder exstrophy is a complex congenital anomaly involving the urinary, reproductive and intestinal tracts, as well as the musculoskeletal system. With bladder exstrophy, the abdominal wall and underlying structures do not properly fuse in utero, when the baby is developing, and the infant is born with the bladder exposed inside-out on the outside of the body.

There are approximately 400 new cases of bladder exstrophy each year in the United States, and males are affected 1.5 to 2.3 times more often than females.
Our medical care
At Children's, our preferred method of surgical treatment is complete primary repair of exstrophy (CPRE) which allows for earlier normal bladder function, which leads to optimal bladder growth and development. Our expert surgeons and clinical staff are some of the most experienced in the world with bladder exstrophy.
Our supportive care
Our bladder exstrophy grupo de apoyo gives families and patients a place to learn about the condition and its management, to receive emotional support, and to meet others who have been through the same experience.
