The Computed Tomography (CT) Division at Children's Hospital Boston is designed and operated specifically with our young patients in mind. We emphasize:
  • reduced radiation exposure using weight-adjusted protocols
  • accuracy in imaging by pairing specialized, experienced medical personnel with state of the art technology
  • and child-friendliness.
Imagen CT scans are performed for numerous reasons in babies, children and adolescents. In the correct clinical setting, CT can be used to diagnose appendicitis, investigate headaches, chest pain or breathing difficulties, and can also be employed to evaluate fractures or bone abnormalities. It can be used to determine whether a tumor is present and to stage new tumors. It is better suited than other cross-sectional imaging modalities to evaluate the lungs and bowel. In emergencies, CT can reveal internal injuries and bleeding faster than any other imaging tool.
