Flor Educación del paciente
Educating our patients and families is a vital role of the Resource Room. A multidisciplinary team of care providers at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Children's Hospital Boston developed a comprehensive educational resource to help guide and navigate patients and families through treatment. Because we print materials on nautical themed stationary, our patients and families nicknamed this recource the "Fish Binder."

Each family receives an individualized binder, filled with teaching sheets specific to their child's disease and what they may/will experience along the way, upon admission to the oncology service. Nurses and Clinical Educators walk patients through these materials and are available to answer any questions patients and families may have.

In addition to printed materials like the binder, the Resource Room hosts several teaching classes to help parents understand certain procedures and feel prepared to care for their child. For example, blood counts and home care classes are held frequently to help families understand the effects of the medication on the body and what they need to know once they transition from the hospital to home.
