The Cochlear Implant Program at Children's Hospital Boston is an interdisciplinary program within the Department of Otolaryngology and Communication Enhancement. It provides a unique opportunity for children who are deaf and their families. The program, led by Greg Licameli, MD, is the largest and most comprehensive pediatric cochlear implant program in New England. We offer advanced technology combined with unparalleled personal care, provided by a team of highly qualified clinicians.

The ultimate goal of the Cochlear Implant Program is to give children the tools they need to understand language, so they can learn to communicate effectively and confidently.

- To provide accurate and complete information to families regarding the choices available to them in helping their child learn to communicate;
- To assess the child?s language skills and potential to benefit from a cochlear implant in the context of his or her general health and development, family, culture, and educational options;
- To provide comprehensive evaluations, cochlear implant surgery and follow-up in a pediatric setting supportive of the needs of young children and their families;
- To provide ongoing care and professional support to the family and to the child?s educational program following cochlear implant surgery;
- To place the child?s emotional well-being as an effective communicator foremost in all planning for medical and educational care;
- To advance the field of knowledge regarding cochlear implantation and the best means of integrating this option into the lives of families and children.
