Children's Hospital Boston ranked first in New England
U.S.News & World Report names "America's Best Hospitals" for 2007
24 de agosto de 2007
Imagen Children's Hospital Boston has again been listed as one of the top pediatric hospitals in the country, according to U.S.News & World Report "America's Best Pediatric Hospital's" issue, dated September 3.

Since the magazine began ranking hospitals 18 years ago, Children's has either been the first or second best pediatric hospital in the country. Este año, el Children's se ubicó en el segundo puesto a nivel nacional y continúa siendo el hospital pediátrico número uno en Nueva Inglaterra.

"The results of this survey are a testament to the incredible dedication and work done by the caregivers, employees and volunteers here at Children's," said James Mandell, MD, president and CEO of Children's Hospital Boston.

Children's clinicians and researchers are responsible for bringing some of the most important and exciting advances to research and medicine in the world. Most recently, Children's researchers have discovered a potential biological cause for SIDS; produced laboratory-grown bladders that were successfully implanted in seven children; and developed one of the world's first patient-controlled health records.

New this year, the editors separated out the pediatric hospitals from the rest of the hospital rankings and significantly changed the methodology.

Previously, U.S.News & World Report developed the rankings exclusively based on personal perceptions of quality from a random national survey of 180 pediatricians. In response to criticism about the validity of the ranking process, the editors have added a quantitative survey to the reputation survey. There are now sections on: services offered; pediatric specialists; technology; trauma center status; nursing FTEs; patient volume; and surgical outcome mortality. As in many other consumer surveys on hospital care, the data is self reported and the results are not case-mix adjusted, which prevents a true head-to-head comparison among participants.

According to U.S.News, the purpose of the "America's Best Hospitals" issue is to assist consumers in identifying medical institutions known to demonstrate the highest level of expertise in diagnosing, treating, or managing difficult medical conditions.

"All of the publicly available data bases and our own comparisons find that Children's consistently performs at world class levels," adds Mandell. "We hear this from our patients and families every day, but it's gratifying to hear it from outside sources as well."
